The Lenzora and Lucille Collier Scholarship Fund was established in 2008 in honor of the memory of Lenzora and Lucille Collier by four of their eight children. Lenzora and Lucille Collier were from rural Lee County, Arkansas. Although they lived in poverty and segregation and did not have the opportunity for higher education themselves, they strongly believed that the way to escape poverty and to advancement for their children was trough higher education. Through their heroic sacrifice and life long encouragement, all eight of their children obtained college degrees. Four of their children, the Honorable Curtis Collier of Chattanooga, Tennessee; Ms. Carolyn Collier Jelks of Chicago, Illinois; Mr. Clifton Collier of Marianna, Arkansas; and Ms. Gail Collier Glover of Atlanta, Georgia, attended Tennessee State University. These four individuals established the scholarship in loving memory of their parents and to build on the model established by their parents. Through this scholarship they wish to assist an out of state freshman to attend their alma mater, Tennessee State University, and advance his or her education. It is hoped that the scholarship will enable a deserving and dedicated young person to enter TSU, complete their college education, and go on to not only enjoy success in life but to make a positive and lasting contribution to society as a whole.
