Luther and Naomi Chrisp Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Luther Henry Chrisp was born August 18, 193, son of L.H. and Fannie McGee Chrisp. He grew up in the Trenton, Gibson County TN area. He attend the public schools of Trenton and Milan Tennessee. He received his B.S.(1938) and M.S. (1956) degrees from then A & I State University. Mr. Chrisp became a faculty member of Rosenwald High School in 1944 where he served until elected principal in 1963. He believed that every student should make an attempt toward a better and successful future. Those assets made him a a outstanding main the his community. He retired after 34 years in the education field. He was the husband of the late Naomi Mitchell Chrisp who was also a teacher at Rosenwald School during those early years. Mr. Chrisp could often be heard talking about how he struggled to get an education and his desire to help others lessen their misery was shown in his giving. Tennessee State University is one of the six Black Colleges and Universities in Tennessee to receive money from the Chrisp estate. Student scholarship recipients should not see it as charity, but as a gift of love and a desire to champion success.
