Mary Yancey Love Math Scholarship
The Mary Yancey Love Math Scholarship was established in her memory by her son, TSU alumnus and TSU Foundation Board Member, Rev. Harold M. Love Jr. Mrs. Love was an advocate of student education and worked diligently to assist students with their life’s dream. Mrs. Love born June 14, 1930 on a farm in Somerville, Tennessee. She graduated from Tennessee A&I State College in May of 1952 with a B.S. degree in Mathematics and a minor in Physics. She graduated Cum Laude with certification to teach grades one through twelve. She began her teaching career in elementary school teaching 1st through 4th grades. Mrs. Loves completed her Master’s Degree in 1956 and was offered a teaching position in the Department of Physics and Mathematics at her Alma Mater. In 1973, Mrs. Love requested to be transferred to work with the TRIO Programs as an Instructional Coordinator and was later hired as the Director of Student Support Services and Upward Bound where she remained until November 2013 when she retired after 57 years of employment at Tennessee State University. During her professional career, Mrs. Love received many awards and recognitions, and was very active with many professional, civic and social organizations— TSU National Alumni Association, Somber Chasers and Talleyette Bridge Clubs and Southeastern Association of Education Opportunity Program Personnel—to name a few. She was married to Harold Moses Love Sr. who preceded her in death, and to that union five wonderful children were born. Mrs. Love departed this life on March 9, 2014.
