The John Lewis Scholarship for Social Justice
The scholarships awarded by the Foundation as The John Lewis Scholarship for Social Justice at Tennessee State University. This covers up to $10,000 tuition assistance/year during matriculation at Tennessee State University with a preferred major in Criminal Justice, Political Science, or Urban Studies (other majors may be considered). The award equals $5,000/semester for up to 3 students. A 3.0 GPA must be maintained.

- 600-word essay based on one of three questions listed below: 1) “You can’t let your failures define you; you have to let them teach you.” (President Barack Obama) Explain a failure that has helped you grow. 2) There are many societal factors impacting our nation and the TED Talk platform is a great way to communicate to a global audience. If you were to give a very important speech on a TED Talk, what would it be about and why? 3) The late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. exemplified courage and resilience. He once said “There comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe nor political, nor popular, but he must take it because his conscience tells him it is right.” Describe a time when you had to take a position in the midst of adversity.
